Technology as it relates to cell phones evolves so quickly that there are always new devices waiting to be released. You might decide you want a model one week, and by the next week or two, you find out about an upcoming phone with better features. Here is a list of top smartphones to be on the lookout for this year.
Samsung: Galaxy Note 9
The Note 9 became a topic of conversation just after the Note 8 was released for sale. The Samsung development team confirmed in an interview that they went straight into planning the next model of the Note and enhanced its special features, such as the S Pen. The Note 9 may have a larger 6.4 inch display, a bigger battery, and possibly a fingerprint scanner in-screen. Samsung is also likely to include the improved camera experience of the dual aperture tech of its Galaxy S9.
Apple: the SE2 and the iPhone 9
As one of the oldest smartphones still in circulation, the iPhone SE is still popular, and speculation about Apple’s update to this small phone is growing. There may be a glass back on the iPhone SE2, and either a no-notch or a notched display.
The iPhone SE2, and the iPhone 9 are expected to launch in October 2018. No one knows what the new iPhone will be called, but many speculate that it is the iPhone 9. It will have a price reduction due to the move from a back made from stainless steel to aluminum. It will also have a 19:9 display and incorporate Face ID in the home button instead of Touch ID. This is all speculation, but there may be different sizes offered in this model as well.
In celebration of ten years of the iPhone, Apple named its expensive and super premium anniversary model the iPhone X. It is expected that the 2018 iPhone updates will borrow from many features of the iPhone X, the foundation for their future models.
Google: The Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL
Google has released a group of phones that have great cameras. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are being touted as having some of the best on the market. These smartphones do not include any complicated apps or multiple lenses that must be used with the cameras. The Pixel phones work well with pure Android software, which users can expect another update for soon.
The display of these smartphones is the source of the biggest leak from Google. Both models will move to 18:9 aspect, but the Pixel 3 XL is embracing the notch. This means even less bezel and that the phone will be a bit more compact. It is expected that Google will have a fall hardware event, so this phone may release in October 2018, with Android P as the phone’s OS.
