Cameras installed in smartphones have developed beyond what many imagined they could. Many features have improved image quality including optical image stabilization (OIS), optical zoom, bright lenses, and larger sensors. Smartphones with cameras are in such high demand that there are top dollar models that support shooting images in “raw” setting. This setting gives you complete control over your image processing. There are many smartphones available for photography enthusiasts including the Samsung Galaxy S9, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, and the Apple iPhone X.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus
The S9 has a second telephoto camera and both cameras on board have OIS, a 12 megapixel sensor. The front of the phone has a 8mp f/1.7 selfie camera that includes auto focus. This Samsung model has an ultra bright aperture lens so more light can be let in. The screen is a 6.2 inch Quad HD+ display, which is similar to other phones that have 5.5. or 6 inch screens. When recording video, you get 960 frames per second with high speed for slow-mo shots, and the 4K video records at 60 frames per second. You can also get 9-megapixel stills when you are recording video. The volume control may be used as a shutter button, which makes it easy to take quick landscape images as well as selfies. Raw images can be photographed in manual mode, and ISO speeds go from ISO50 to ISO1250.
Samsung Galaxy S8
Another Samsung phone, the S8 model, has the same cameras as the S7 model. The selfie camera has the auto focus and the rear camera is 12 megapixels with dual pixel technology and a bright aperture. Dominating the front of the phone is the 5.8 inch Quad HD+ impressive screen. However, this smartphone has the same compact size as its predecessor. You can capture 9 megapixel stills when you are in video mode, and the S8 is able to capture 4K video. Waterproof to a depth of 1.5 meters (for up to 30 minutes), you can even use this phone in the rain or wet conditions. If you need to use one, a microSD card expands the memory of this smartphone for even more images. Your shutter button is the volume control, and in manual mode, ISO speeds range from ISO50 to ISO800.
Samsung Galaxy S7
Built into this Samsung model is a dual pixel technology 12-megapixel rear camera. The aperture is a bright f/1.7. If you want clear images, the S7 has a quad HD screen for this purpose and it can capture 9 megapixel stills in video mode. This model has the same dust proof and waterproof features as the S8 and the S9 smartphones. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the back and screen, and you can expand its memory with a microSD card. Choose ISO speeds from ISO50 to ISO800 in manual mode, and use the volume control when you need a shutter button.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro
This model is the flagship of Huawei smartphones. A fantastic feature of its photography capability is the dual Leica cameras with color and black and white sensors. This phone comes with a topnotch processor that speeds up the AI for its camera and smartphone features. Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro has a 12 megapixel f/1.6 color camera and a 20 megapixel f/1.6 black and white camera. Both lenses are equivalent to 27mm when compared in 35mm terms. Optical image stabilization, Leica branding next to the phone’s cameras, and a dual LED flash are all features of the main color camera. Video recorded by this smartphone is in 4K and high speed at 120 frames per second at full HD resolution.
Google Pixel 2 XL
The Pixel 2 XL is Google’s chief smartphone. It has a large 18:9 screen, OIS, and waterproof body, and produces images with excellent quality. This smartphone does not have a second camera as some others do. Its clever technology allows the Google Pixel 2 XL to capture images in high detail and will take impressive portrait and landscape shots. This smartphone has a 12 megapixel f/1.8 camera, OIS, dual pixel autofocus, a dual LED flash, is water and dust resistant, and it shoots full HD 4K video.
Apple iPhone X
Apple celebrated the 10th anniversary of their iPhone line with the iPhone X. It has a dual camera setup with a wide angle lens that is equivalent to a 28mm lens. The telephoto lens is equivalent to a 56mm lens. This smartphone features OIS and a larger sensor, and the aperture for the telephoto lens is brighter due to an f/2.4 aperture. The wide angle lens has a f/1.8 aperture and both dual cameras are 12 megapixels. The camera on the front has 7 megapixels and this selfie camera also features an aperture of f/2.2. If you want to capture video with the iPhone X, it has 4K video with up to 60 frames per second.
